San Antonio - Earlier today, the Minor League Baseball communications office announced that Missions shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. was named Texas League Player of the Month for May.
In his 29 games last month, Tatis Jr. batted .336 (41-for-122) with 12 doubles, two triples, seven homers, 16 RBI, five steals and 30 runs scored. For the month, Tatis Jr. led the TL in runs, extra-base hits (21) and total bases (78), in addition to tying for the league lead in doubles. The San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic native also finished second in slugging (.639), third in both hits and OPS (1.054) and tied for third in homers.
The 19-year-old infielder enters Tuesday leading the Texas Leage in runs scored (48), while tied with teammate (and April Player of the Month) Austin Allen in extra-base hits (29). - OurSportsCentral.com
