So Andy Green Might Be a Little Nuts and I Like It

So that nugget was dropped last night. A reddit post via tweet from Josh. I guess Andy Green has been talking some shit to the gang. Presumably a lot after the lack of hits in the opening night of the Monterrey Series vs the Doyers. "Dressed Down" according to the post.

Then on Saturday, two things happen in the dugout:
1. Hosmer goes deep and says to Green, "Am I earning my paycheck now Chief?"
2. Mitchell goes on a baby tirade after being pulled 2.1 IP into his start, cursing at Green: "Just let me F*cking pitch, your f*cking way isn't f*cking working. Let me f*cking pitch."

Let me start by saying I am fine with Green getting after his guys when they suck. They deserve it. Tank or no tank, you can't simply go out and fail to put the bat on the ball so frequently that it's a main topic of discussion. Baseball is a long season and you would certainly have to pick your battles as a manager, but when you decide to go in then go all the way in, and it appeared Green did just that since he's evoking these responses from players.

Maybe he went a little too HAM? If guys like Eric Hosmer, who by all accounts is nice guy and respected league wide, is taunting his manager before celebrating with teammates after going yaya, then Green's method clearly isn't going over well with the players. I'll listen to that argument.

Having said that, the Padres did in fact take the last two games of the series vs LA after the shit blasting. I have a take that't not for everyone. If the players bond and can unite over a common goal, its a positive. If that bonding and common goal is hating the manager, its bonding nonetheless. If the coach is challenging his players to such an extent that they must band together to prove him wrong, then so be it.

Mitchell can cry all he wants. I'm on board with Green pulling him from his start and moving him to the bullpen, something that should have happened weeks ago. He's started seven games while only pitching 32 innings with a 6.47 ERA. He has ten more walks (26) then strikeouts, a stat that is awful at the Little League Majors level let alone the MLB. I think Green is pushing the front office back a little bit finally. He's over Mitchell being forced on him by AJ Preller like Gretchen trying to make "Fetch" happen in Mean Girls.

Green to AJ

He was pissed Luis Urias wasn't pulled up for the Monterrey Series admitting that he had "lost that battle" with the front office. Speaking or Urias some breaking News with a lower case 'b': while his call up in inevitable, I'd be a little more patient Padres fans. I am hearing that management is worried about his Super 2 Status, so maybe expect a June/July call up. Lower case 'b' news like I said.

Bottom line, while I question some of his decisions he makes, I am behind Andy Green and am completely fine with him laying into his players every once in awhile. It happens in sports. I know there isn't a Fangraphs chart to display some data for the nerds out there, but it happens.
