Esteban Loaiza Chasing the Dragon after MLB Life

From Tom Schad at USA Today:

Former MLB pitcher Esteban Loaiza was arrested in San Diego on Friday on three drug-related felony charges, including possession of roughly 44 pounds of suspected cocaine.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a press release Monday morning that Loaiza was arrested as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. He was driving a vehicle that police believed was being used to smuggle drugs and was pulled over for a minor traffic infraction, according to the release.
During a search of the vehicle, police found a "sophisticated aftermarket compartment used to conceal contraband."
A subsequent search of a home leased to Loaiza led to the discovery of about 20 kilograms (or 44 pounds) of suspected cocaine valued at approximately $500,000, according to the release. The home is "just steps away" from a preschool, according to police.
Holy Testicle Tuesday! I've seen Narcos on Netflix like everyone else but I'm not sure how many 20 Kilos really is, I just know that's a shit load of Colombian Marching Powder. Apparently a half a million worth.

Loaiza cashed in north of $40M in his long MLB career, so who the f*ck knows how he got himself into this mess. But this line from the NY Daily News is interesting:

Loaiza was briefly married to the late singer Jenni Rivera, who allegedly entertained for Mexican drug cartels, according to Mexican media.

If Loaiza is deep in the game, and this looks bad to me, he better play the next few weeks pretty damn intelligently.

According to my own sources (I got a couple don't trip) he was booked into a Chula Vista Jail. ICYMI: Chula is basically Tijuana North. I will let you connect the dots yourself. He might have some new friends in his new temporary home, or some bad MF's looking to get him.

Of course, this is all pure speculation. But I don't think 20 Keys taken by the Feds doesn't go unnoticed even if its NOT from a former two time All Star.

Good Luck Esteban.
