Rockstar GM: Preller's Trades for Current Top 20 Prospects

Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs released some Padres Prospect Porn today that included detailed reports on forty three prospects in the system. FORTY THREE; that's a shitload. Due to the relentless depth of the Friars' organization, the writers at FG couldn't help but give some quick thoughts on thirty three more players.
This is the best system in baseball, and whatever attrition occurs among the top names on this list will likely be back-filled by its ridiculous depth. - Eric Longenhagen, Fangraphs

Every so often we need a reminder on just how some of these players arrived in the Padres system. This is especially the case for average, common man like myself. I know guys like  James Clark and SacBuntDustin know all this stuff because they're smarter than me and probably smarter than you. No big deal. This post is all about people helping people.

Yes AJ traded for Mitchell and Headley, a clear swing and miss. The organization has already called BS on itself by releasing Chase and demoting Bryan to the bullpen. Sure there are other mistakes. But when you are done reading the following list you'll be closer to offering services and/or sexual acts than to demanding any type of change at the GM position.

"Damn my game is tight"

Without further ado, here are seven examples of AJ (potentially) fleecing other GMs (Prospect ranks from Fangraphs)

Rank - Player (POS) - FV - How they were Acquired

#19 - Edward Olivares (OF) - 45 - Via Trade with TOR for Yangervis Solarte in January of 2018

Saw this guy go YaYa in Lake Elsinore. Missing Yangervis' personality is an understatement, but this was a nice snag by AJ since Solarte really didn't have a future with the club.

#18 - Esteury Ruiz (2B) - 45 - Via Trade with KC (along with Matt Strahm) for Trevor Cahill, Brandon Maurer, and Ryan Buchter in July 2017

Drawing comparisons to Alfonso Soriano due to both his power to all fields and poor defense. Whatever I'll take it. There could be worse secondary options to Urias down the line.

#15 - Pedro Avila (SP) - 45 - Via Trade with WAS for Derek Norris in December 2016

Saw him pitch live in my first visit to Lake Elsinore and he was dominate. With Derek Norris not even playing baseball anymore due to diminishing skills and domestic violence problems, this can prove to be a highway robbery even if Avila lives up to his rank, which I feel is a little low. I think he can be a #4 type guy at worst.

#14 - Josh Naylor (1B/OF) - 45 - Via Trade with MIA in Andrew Cashner deal in July 2016.

Bahahahahaha the Marlins gave us their #2 ranked prospect for Andrew "no ceilings" Cashner. Despite the fact that Naylor has rubbed some Padres Twitter users (i.e. MiserableSDfan) with his mental midget blocking policy, he still has a raw power rating of 70/70. He is being tested in the OF since Hosmer will be with the club for a while. Reason #5 for the Friars on why the NL needs the DH.

#13 - Chris Paddack (SP) - 45 - Via Trade with MIA for Fernando Rodney in July 2016

Remember when AJ scooped up Rodney on the cheap in the offseason heading into the 2016 campaign. I remember the shit Preller was getting for this GENIUS move. Rodney was nails on his way to the All Star game and was promptly moved for this freakin' stud. This rating has to be from the before the season because Paddack is looking like a top of the rotation type guy. He looks like what Cashner was supposed to look like. Hey thanks again Miami!

#8 - Logan Allen (SP) - 50 - Via Trade with BOS as apart of the Kimbrel haul in Novermber 2015

The other 3 players that came with Allen have already reached the bigs at least for one series. Manny Margot was the major piece and Allen will most likely be the second ranked prize when its all said and done (also Carlos Asuaje, Javier Guerra). From Fangraphs:
"Another changeup specialist, Allen has a comfortably plus cambio and sinking low-90s fastball. He’s missing bats at Double-A as a 20-year-old and is a likely No. 4 starter prospect."
I am very intrigued to see Allen move up the system. His name tends to get lost in the shuffle with other SPs in the Padres top 10 (Gore, Baez, Morejon, Espinoza, Quantrill).

So far this season in 9 starts in AA he's 6-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 54.1 innings pitched. His advanced stats are kind of all over the place, ranging from excellent to poor. He has a 3.36 FIP (great) paired with slightly unlucky .324 BABIP (3.00 is avg). Then he sports a 10.44 K/9 (Excellent) with a 3.81 BB/9 (shitty). It he can lock down his command issues he should be able to move quicker through the minors.

#1 - Fernando Tatis Jr (SS) - 65 - Via Trade with CWS for James Shields in June 2016

"Can't wait to turn shit into Diamonds" - AJ's Thoughts

Nothing to say that you haven't heard already. Here's an interesting quote:
"He’s five years younger than the average regular at Double-A right now."

Suck it Boomskie.
