Missing SP: Luis Perdomo

Where the f*ck is Luis Perdomo?

He was sent down to El Paso earlier in the year to "work on confidence." Well after 35 innings pitched in five starts with a 3.09 ERA in the hitting paradise that is the PCL, I'd say he's found it.

Seemed like a no-brainer to pull up Perdomo after Joey Lucchesi went to the DL. So of course the Padres brought Carlos Asuaje back instead. Tyson Ross is scheduled to pitch tonight with Clayton Richard taking the mound on Saturday.

For Sunday, I assume the Padres would take advantage of their weird schedule they had this week (off day Wednesday) and run out Lyles, who will have had the normal days of rest leading up to that day. This could be why Asuaje didn't even finishing packing for EP before getting the call "back up."

But then there's a 3 game series in D.C. that starts Monday vs the Nats where we will learn the identity of the new "5th" starter so to speak. Lauer should be scheduled to pitch Tuesday, with Ross on Wednesday, and so on.

One could assume the Padres make another roster move Monday morning to fill the need for this start. Maybe we will get lucky and Pirela/Szczur could be off the team by then, but lets assume that's a no. If they don't make a roster move there would be a spot start by someone in the bullpen. My guess from there is that it would be Bryan Mitchell, the remainder of one of the strangest organizational moves by AJ Preller in his tenure.

If Mitchell gets that start then prepare for a bloodbath on #PadresTwitter, led by yours truly.

UGH. No Mitchell at least...I guess.

Back to Luis. I have been told - yes, by sources - that Perdomo is discouraged that he's still in El Paso. I don't blame him. Looks as if that will continue to be the case.

I also don't blame for AJ/Andy for sending him down at the beginning of the year to work on his shit. He was missing the zone a little too much. BUT he was kind of unlucky when opponents did make contact. His FIP was 3.79 (4.00 is average), and for f*ck's sake his BABIP was .510. That is some unlucky shit. Compare that with Mitchell's 6.64 FIP (DOGSHIT) and .302 BABIP.

Padres Highlight of the Year

Fast forward to now and I feel like he has regained some command. Posting a sub-1 WHiP in the PCL is pretty impressive. Who cares if nine hits have been HR. Leisure Friar could crank one out in that league if he ran into a fastball a la Bartolo Colon.

It's easy to forget that Perdomo was a Rule 5 selection only a couple of years ago. He has close to 100 more IP in the MLB than at the Low A - AAA level. He pitched two consecutive years with the Padres coming straight from high A in the Cardinals organization. Nobody makes jumps like that (of course that says more about the organization at the time but move pass it).

Why is everyone (myself included) so dismissive about Perdomo being in the future plans? Not like Lauer/Lucchesi are the new Syndergaard/DeGrom combo. Fuck the spot start and #FreePerdomo already. We all know he has the stuff because we have seen it. Sure, the time gap between seeing said stuff is the problem, but the point of this post is that his numbers in AAA  have shown that he might have turned a corner in that department and is ready to come back to San Diego.

I think his "confidence" is ready. Now he just needs the chance.
