Padres On The Field Recently

Padres Twitter has been lit like Clark Griswolds's house during Christmas, but how has the team actually been doing on the field?

Surprisingly mediocre is the answer. Padres are 13-13 this month and they have an opportunity to post a winning record in the month of May for the first time since 2013 when they went 15-13. Clayton Richard takes the mound tonight with Jordan Lyles pitching on Thursday. Chalk up the dubs right now.

Who's Hot

Manuel Margot - His last 5 games he's slashing 333/375/467 with a couple of doubles and a stolen base. I would like to see more of him and less of Matt Szczur, even if he pulls weird stunts like the one in the top of the 9th inning yesterday.

Kirby Yates - Not only did he crush the #AskThePadres segment on twitter yesterday, in his last 13 appearances he's 3-0 with a 0.73 ERA and 0.97 WHiP in 12.1 innings pitched. He's sent 16 batters back to the dugout with the bat in their hands.

Tyson Ross - He's pitched 18 innings in his last 3 starts with a 3.00 ERA going 2-0. He also boosts a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio. We are sadly approaching the end of Tyson's second of three stints with the Padres. 2020 Headline: Three Times a Charm, Ross to Peoria

Jose Pirela - Slugging an astronomical .417 his last 6 games (2 doubles) raising his season's slugging % to a whopping .356 - no wonder hes always in the 3/4 hole. No doubt he'd be a good OTL player.

Question of the Week: Would you accept Franmil Reyes going 2 for 13 with a walk every fourteen ABs if one of those hits looked like this?

Easy yes in my book.

Who's Hurt

Franchy Cordero took Hunter Renfroe's spot on the DL. Of course Franchy came up once Margot hit the DL earlier this year. This is an upsetting trend for the outfield that hopefully will not continue. Wil Myers has resumed baseball activities and is probably a fortnight away from his return, assuming he doesn't play Fortnite with Brad Hand too often. Let's hope someone important doesn't swap places with him once he's 100%.

Austin Hedges should be close to a Padres return which should make all of the pitchers happy.  Despite his deficiencies at the plate, behind the dish he's an artist that's been missed on a level comparable to 2Pac. That's right: Hedges is 2Pac as Ellis/Lopez is to this guy. I really just want to hear Careless Whisper on the PA again. I don't care if he strikes out with the bases juiced with 0 outs just let me dance in the stands on Friday.

Go Padres!
